Your Annual Reminder to Put Your Skin First

Taking proper care of your skin doesn’t have to cost the earth, but it should always be a priority.

National Skin Cancer Action Week is officially this week, from November 21 to 27, and it is a reminder of the importance of taking extra precautions when it comes to embracing the outdoors and exposing your skin to the sun. To help with putting your skin first we have compiled a number of products to act as a protective layer and prioritise sun safety.

SPF

Most of us should have been told early on of the importance of applying sunscreen, but sometimes we forget just how important it is as a protective measure against skin cancer. If you are not someone who values a good quality SPF in your daily skincare routine, then let us step in to remind you to take action now.

Many skin cancers can actually be prevented by taking protective daily measures, like wearing sunscreen and so there is no better time than right now to start finding yourself a must-have SPF. When selecting a sunscreen to wear, we recommend one that is SPF30 or higher, and to wear it rain, hail or shine.

For an Australian-made vegan skincare product that gets the job done, we highly recommend the Esmi Skin Minerals Skin Shield Face SPF30 Sunscreen. As a super light, non-sticky product, this sunscreen is also great for under makeup and serves as a smooth base. A win-win on all fronts!

BB Creams

BB creams are honestly the must-have product as summer and long days spent on the beach draw nearer, because while there is a time and place for a full coverage look, you can never go wrong with a minimalistic look. A statement we are sure skincare trendsetting queen Hailey Bieber lives by.

Thankfully, achieving this look is made all the more easier once you start investing in a trusty BB cream. Not only great for providing coverage, the tinted moisturising product can leave you positively glowing, SPF-covered and still feeling like your au-naturel self.

For a brand that is reeling in great reviews from users and skin care enthusiasts alike, Ultra Violette may be the one for you. Seen as a front runner, the Daydream Screen Tinted Veil comes with SPF50 protection and creates a dewy finish with sheer to medium coverage.

But, if your battle with sensitive skin is holding you back, then don’t hesitate to try the specifically formulated Avène Day Protector Tinted BB cream, as we can already hear it begging to moisturise and protect your particularly fussy skin.

HYDRATING CREAMS

While this week is focused around encouraging actions to be taken when it comes to protecting your skin from the sun, a lot can also be said for the importance of after sun care, and general skin care. There is no denying that SPF comes first and foremost, but hydrating the skin after its exhausting battle fighting the heat and outdoor elements can go a long way.

Once again proving their ability to thrive in the realm of skin care is Avène and Ultra Violette. The Ultra Violette Supreme Screen sets itself apart from being just a sunscreen and cements itself as a hydrating and moisturising booster, while the Avène Tolerance Control Soothing Skin Recovery cream is both calming and soothing focused.

For a product that won’t leave you too out of pocket, and gives you your money’s worth, the CeraVe’s 24-hour lasting body moisturiser is perfect for dry to very dry skin. Making sure that every inch of your body is left feeling loved and cared for.

Serums

Not too dissimilar to hydrating creams, serums exist to give your skin some love after all the hard work it has been put through, and because this week is all about taking action and putting your skin first, we can’t recommend them enough.

When finding a serum that truly works in locking in moisture, we suggest going for one with Hyaluronic Acid as it holds the power to draw a world of moisture into your skin. To help clear the confusion and get straight to the products that work, we have compiled the perfect starting base for you.

Strong contributors, with a focus on Hyaluronic Acid, are The Ordinary and Esmi Skin Minerals. While The Ordinary has incorporated Vitamin B5 in its bottle, to enhance surface hydration, Esmi uses Vitamin B3 Niacinamide which aids in boosting the production of collagen.

As well as giving the face more attention, try not to forget the importance of nourishing the whole body. The perfect post-sun serum comes in the form of the Biologi Bf Hydration Face & Body Serum. While it is a potent serum, it is gentle when soothing and repairing skin that has been overexposed to the sun.
