Slip, Slop Slap this Summer with Australia’s Best Sunscreens

Celebrating skin safety with our top Australian SPF brands.

Summer may have had a delayed arrival, but is well and truly here. To celebrate, here are 4 of our favourite Australian-owned and Australian-proud sunscreen brands to keep your skin in tip-top shape this summer.

Words By Brittany Lyons

Ultra Violette

One of the newer kids on the (sun) block is a young and vivacious outfit coming out of the inner suburbs of Melbourne. Ultra Violette, a clever and feminine update to the name of the dangerous rays affecting our skin, first graced our shelves and skins in 2019.

Friends and skin safety aficionados, Ava Matthews and Bec Jefferd, brought their two brilliant minds and experience in the beauty industry together, and wielded a brand of sunscreens that sought to make SPF fun. Oh and have they!

4 years on, UV has managed to introduce a generous offering of sunscreen and SPF infused products to market, ticking off both physical and chemical formulations.

We especially love Ultra Violette ‘skinscreens’ for their skincare like benefits, the impeccable broad spectrum protection they provide and, most importantly, their accessible price points.

A personal favourite in the UV discography of SPF is the Clean Screen Sunscreen. This particular formula is engineered for sensitive skin types, boasting no added fragrance and partial mineral ingredients.

Airyday

Airyday is another Australian sunscreen brand, this time born from a skin cancer diagnosis from it’s founder, Frances.

How long had that spot been there? Weeks, or even a few months? Upon reflection, likely even longer. But that’s the thing; these subtle, often overlooked symptoms posing as common inconveniences are exactly that – overlooked.

The diagnosis of Frances’ Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) was her wake up call to get serious about skin-caring and be diligent with SPF application and reapplication. The problem? Well, she couldn’t find a brand or formula of sunscreen that wasnt sticky or didnt make her break out.

Frances’ passion to wear sunscreen daily lead her to creating a collection of products that allowed her to do so, and so, Airyday was born.

A playful plea for a name, Airyday is all about ensuring that their products are applied 365 days a year, no matter the weather. In fact, you can find the below throughout the brand’s site and plastered on their physical products;

‘PSA: Don’t forget to SPF All Day, Airyday.’

Bondi Sands

When it comes to Australian sun care brands, you can’t really get more iconic than Bondi Sands. Established back in 2012, the gang behind the brand has been bringing the glow of the most iconic beach of Australia to bathrooms around the world, safety.

Thats right, next to sunscreen, artificial tanning products are one of the best ways to protect skins from the sun, as they promote a tan that doesn’t require the exposure to any harmful UVA or UVB rays

So, it only makes a great deal of sense for Bondi Sands to then release a range of effective and beloved sunscreens to further protect the skins of bronzed-skin adorers, around the globe. And, thats exactly what the good people at Bondi Sands did!

To provide their millions of fans around the globe with the highest level of defence, Bondi Sands have formulated a range of sunscreen lotions for the body, sunscreen for the face, and lightweight sunscreen mists for hassle-free applications and top-ups while on the go.

We Are Feel Good Inc

Our fourth and final Australian-owned and curated sunscreen brand, which is also made on our shores, is We Are Feel Good Inc.

Created by six adventure seeking mates who were yearning for a sunscreen that could withstand all of the sweat, dirt and saltwater their ventures led them on, plus do some good at the same time too, the brand and it’s very clear name was born.

After years of researching, developing, refining and testing, We Are Feel Good Inc. was finally launched in December, 2016.

Their products are proudly Australian made and understand the quintessential Aussie lifestyle.

What you wont find inside a We Are Feel Good Inc. bottle is a sticky post-sunscreen feel, parabens, oxybenzone, octinoxate or PABAs.

What you can expect to find inside one of their bottles is Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, chosen for their antioxidant, hydration and nourishing properties, the championing of native Australian botanicals, as well as broad spectrum protection.

We Are Feel Good Inc. Sensitive Sunscreen Lotion SPF50 400ml, was $49.95 now $39.95, Healthy Life
