A Modern take on Romanticism, this is Alemais
Born during a pandemic, here’s how Sydney’s Alemais is proving there will always be a place for joyful and feminine fashion, no matter the state of our world.
Launched amidst the peak of the pandemic in October 2020, Sydney-based womenswear label Alemais was born. A result of being made redundant, designer Lesleigh Jermanus claims that being forced into stillness caused an eruption of creativity that needed an outlet. Said outlet, now stands as one of the brightest up and coming brands in Australia’s homegrown scenes.
Once you peep the collection, it’s undoubtedly clear where Jermanus gained her 20 years of designing experience. Having the likes of Zimmermann, Nicholas and Marcs under her career belt, it’s no surprise she has a knack for designing feminine resort-style wear that evokes such brightness and joy.
The collections themselves are filled with feminism, flounce, colour and pattern. A mixture of traditional artisanal techniques and flowy silhouettes ensure that every Alemais piece is effortlessly considered and chic.
Still very much in its infancy, the brand has been creating floral printed waves throughout the local and international scene. Spotted multiple times on the likes of Australia’s sweetheart Zoe Foster-Blake and others, the beachy and feminine brand has well and truly reached cult status.
Now repping a swimwear offering to boot, will be a go-to for tropical holidays, weddings by the seaside and Spring Racing which is just around the corner.
If the sheer beauty of the garments wasn’t enough to pull you into the Alemais orbit, we think the brand’s commitment to sustainability might. Not only has the label weaved environmental responsibility into their values but have chosen to truly commit to supporting the health of our planet via ‘The Alemais Planet’. This endeavour pledges one tree planted to every Alemais garment sold.
Thanks to their partnership with Ecologi, Alemais (and each of their consumer’s purchases) are responsible for in excess of 100,000 trees over a period of 27 months. That’s equates to 307.18 tonnes of carbon that has been reduced! A new dress and a new tree, what’s more to love?
