“I’ve always looked at jewelry design as an art form," says Alexis Bittar, described as ‘one of the greatest jewelry designers of the 21st century.' Back as a boy growing up in Brooklyn New York, Alexis was gifted $300 worth of vintage jewelry, which he then used as the seedlings of his nascent commercial operation.
The cast was set and using Lucite and semi-precious stones and metals, Alexis began selling handmade pieces on the streets of Soho before being discovered in 1992 by the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman, who agreed to carry his designs. Saks Fifth Avenue, the Museum of Modern Art and Harrods quickly followed suit. Cameron Diaz and Michelle Obama are also a huge fan of Alexis's creations, crafted from the finest metals and top-quality stones, including necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings, featuring stones ranging from diamond to iolite to periwinkle quartz, amongst several exotic and elegant others.
"I just started it because I love what I do, and I love the craft," says Alexis. "I love design; I love art. That's how I started."
