Team Monde Share their 2023 Fashion Purchase of the Year

Our editorial and design team share their best fashion purchase of this year.

2023, what a year! The last 12 months has been some of the biggest when it comes to fleeting and sticking fashion trends (thanks TikTok). No matter whether you're a fan of some of the trends that 2023 has yielded or not, here are Team Monde's best fashion buys from the year that was.

Sick of carting around two bags every day to the office or when travelling, I set about trying to find a stylish tote bag. But my requirements were extensive.

It needed to fit all my stuff such as laptop, phone, cables, make-up bag, and notebook amongst a whole lot of other daily essentials, but I didn’t want to look like I had a duffel bag slung over my shoulder.

When in doubt, I always go to one of my favourite Australian brands, Oroton, for classic with a twist of cool bags, fashion, accessories and clothing. And they never disappoint.

I am such a sucker for anything coming out of Acne Studios and their tailoring is simply *chefs kiss*. My very first big fashion purchase about 8 or so years ago was an Acne leather biker jacket and ever since falling madly for the exquisite craftsmanship and the way it makes me feel when I wear it, I love to treat myself to an Acne jacket, every now and then.

I actually tried on this beautiful recycled woven blazer in Army Green at Acne Studios in West Hollywood whilst on a trip this year, and couldn’t stop thinking about it until after I got home.

Naturally I logged onto Net-A-Porter soon after my arrival back to Australia and nabbed it, and have adored wearing it ever since.

The perfect colourful accompaniment to a meeting outfit or to wear over a dress for a nice dinner out, this Acne Studios blazer is a fabulous investment, and even better at a cool $400 off the RRP.

The arrival of summer earlier this year reminded me that my wardrobe is void of a dressy sandal that is comfortable to wear while wondering around on holiday, and one that I can easily trek though the sand with.

I’m not usually one to wear a flatform or a wedge but these from Loeffler Randal have been a special treat for my feet and my summer outfits.

I love the braided detail (which oozes summer chic) and the bow is very on trend, in line with this feminine coquette-core we’re continuing to see everywhere.

The Our Legacy Orange Unwound Sunglasses have undeniably become my favourite fashion purchase of the year, seamlessly blending style and functionality.

The vibrant orange hue adds a bold touch, elevating even the simplest looks. They’re lightweight and sung, making them perfect for extended wear.

These sunnies are a legit everyday Summer item that not only look good, provide essential eye protection be it beach or bar.

Hands down my favourite fashion purchase of this year is the Tony Bianco Brooklyn Loafer. I was first convinced to buy these shoes when chunky, shiny black loafers were trending. Although a bit hesitant about how much I would actually wear them, I soon realised I was concerned for no reason.

When I say I wear these everywhere, and with everything, I mean it. They are the true hero of my (small) shoe collection, and there is not even any time left for them to gather a layer of dust.

The Brooklyn Loafer offers the perfect amount of chunkiness, all the while not being too over-the-top, nor overpowering the rest of my outfit. Also, the detailing! The black stitching and the jagged edge on the tongue of the shoe are the true scene-stealers, and manage to elevate even the simplest of outfits.

I absolutely adore the pleated tennis skirt, and the Cotton On Body Ultimate Tennis Skirt is hands down my favourite purchase of all time and 2023. It’s become my secret weapon for compliments galore.

Plus, it’s the ultimate chameleon and super flattering – pair it with a tee for a casual vibe, toss on a sweater for cozy chic, can be worn for dancing or level it up with a blouse for that sophisticated look for work.

The best part? It has built-in shorts and pockets for ultimate comfort and convenience, allowing me to carry essentials like my phone and lippie.

The fabric is soft and has just the right amount of stretch, making it perfect for all-day wear. This skirt is like the best friend that always has your back when you need a killer outfit every time. It’s twirl-worthy, comfy, and versatile, making every day a fashion adventure.
