How to Protect your Hair this Summer
Summer is fast approaching and so is the time to get serious about protecting your hair from getting fried this season.
If you're a beauty junkie like us here at #TeamMonde, you've spent the good part of the cooler months of 2023 supporting, strengthening and nourishing your hair. The heat and sun of summer is notoriously hard on your locks, so here are a bunch of different items to ensure the only thing getting fried this year is your food.

Hats
You may be surprised by this first suggestion of a product to protect your hair, not being a beauty product at all! A hat is an important summer accessory to protect your skin from harsh UVA & UVB rays. The damaging rays of the sun not only contribute to the chances of developing melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, accelerating the signs of ageing and pigmentation BUT also damage your hair.
Spending time in the sun weakens your hair’s protein structure, de-moisturises it and reduces elasticity so your hair breaks more easily. Ah!
A brilliant way to protect your face, your scalp and your hair from the drying affects of the sun, is with a hat. This always effective option means you don’t need to rely on applying and reapplying product, you simply shade your hair from the sun and voila, it’s protected.
There are many reasons why you should invest in a broad brim summer hat and protecting your hair is one of them! One of our favourites this season has got to be this ultra chic number from Lorna Murray. The iconic lamp shade-esque style offers quirk alongside reliability and versatility.
Likewise, the Baba Hat by Marle is exceptionally sun-smart whilst offering a contemporary slouchy feel. Pull the brim to whatever side for an effortlessly cool yet protective look.
Oh and the visor, set to be one of the poshest hat options this season, would look great worn backwards to protect your mane!

Hair Masks
Ok, now we can dive into the beauty products created to protect your hair from the harshness of the summer months.
One of the greatest ways to rehydrate and nourish the hair is with a hair mask. Just like a mask for the skin, this thick consistency goop is packed with everything your hair needs, with a reduction of filler ingredients like water.
Hydrating hair masks should be used as a preventative to damage, as well as after a day spent in the sea and under the sun. In the summer months, we recommend upping the ritual of the hair mask to weekly or bi-weekly to ensure the sparkle to your hair isnt dimmed, at all!
When it comes to hydrating hair masks, our holy grail product is Kevin Murphy’s Re.Store. Not only is it incased with post consumer ocean waste plastic, but the formulation is filled with powerful proteins from Bamboo and Silk Amino Acids. Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner
As they say, prevention is better than a cure, and the best way to ensure your hair doesnt get frizzled in the summer heat is by treating it right every time you can.

Outside of the shower and when you’re not donning your hat to protect your precious locks, there is a beauty product you can bring to your beach day to touch your hair up… hair sprays!
Not the hair spray you use to achieve hold and longevity to a style, sprays used to protect your hair pre-heat tools and pre spending a day out in the sun.
Did you know there are sunscreen sprays formulated specifically to be used in your hair? Well there are, thanks to clever chemists!
