The Reason Why Silk Will Be Your New Haircare Hero

Add a little luxury to you hair maintenance routine

According to Chinese legend, Empress Xi Ling-Shi was sitting in her garden under the shade of a Mulberry tree when she discovered silk. She was halfway through a hot tea when a silkworm cocoon fell into her cup. As the story goes, she carefully watched and was mesmerised when it dissolved into a delicate translucent thread. In later Chinese texts, the Empress became known as the Goddess of Silk. Back then, almost 5 thousand years ago, silk was reserved for those with great wealth and influence. Silk is still a luxury item today, but it’s one worth the indulgence.

The Hair Wrap

Silk accessories can cure your most tiresome hair troubles and, above all, leave you feeling utterly regal. Whether you’re struggling to cure an isolation hair disaster or just trying to get a few more days from your blow-dry, the hair wrap is a valuable bedtime accessory. For those who toss and turn, sleep next to a sweaty partner or have ruined their hair with peroxide, wearing a hair wrap will keep your hair smoother, cleaner and healthier. We’ve found styles ranging from bold coloured turbans to frilled bonnets; there is something for everyone’s bedtime alter-ego. Our go-to brand, SILKE London, has you covered with every on-trend colour you desire.

The Scrunchie

Silk is a soft and luxurious fabric, and it doesn’t pull and pinch like your average elastic hair tie or synthetic fabric scrunchie. Silk is better for your hair and gentler on your scalp. We recommend taking full advantage of the fabric’s luminosity by selecting something oversized. Whether Charmeuse, Organza or Chiffon, silk adds a touch of elegance to the playful scrunchie look, creating a versatility suitable for both brunch and the boardroom—or an important zoom meeting.

The Pillowcase

If I could only bring luxury into one room of the house, I would choose the bedroom. It’s where we are our most intimate, where we dream and where our body rejuvenates from the stresses of the day. Resting your head on a silk pillowcases after a long day on your feet or at your desk is an indulgent experience. Silk absorbs less of your night cream, is gentler on your hair and skin and is suitable for even the most sensitive cheeks. We have found a range of luxury silk pillowcases for any bedroom aesthetic; from black to marbleised pastels.
