Luxe to Less: Men’s Trending Minimalist Sandals

As the curtain closes on the summer period for us here in the Southern Hemisphere, we’re looking back on the sandals that made season what it was.

Men’s sandals with a minimalistic twist that we couldn’t get enough of this season, and hope stick around for seasons to come.

Luxe

When it comes to men’s sandals in the luxury market, we prefer to opt for those with a smart, simple design that will stand the test of time. Thankfully, when it comes to the sandal game, there are only so many core designs that exist, with many fashion houses putting their own spin on them.

Take the rubber pool slide for example. This iconic and simple silhouette that pretty much just features a thick band attached to a flat sole, has been tried, tested and turned inside out by many brands both from the high-end and high street. The Intrecciato rubber pool slides iteration from Bottega Veneta feature the iconic warp and weft brand identify and are available in all the brand’s stand-out hues.

If you’re partial to something with a little more flair and fun, and a design that oozes luxury, then the Double-strap Leather sandals by MM6 Maison Margiela are a trending item that might just do the trick. The recessed footbed adds a cool design element and when paired with the black sole, is a striking sandal perfect to dress up or dress down.

Less

The mid-market range of men’s sandals that we have seen far and wide this season make a very compelling case or ones that should join your wardrobe repertoire.

The around $200-ish mark are where iconic sandal brands such as Birkenstock are nestled. The heritage German brand known best for their comfy cork footbeds and iconic two stripe Arizon Sandal, it’s clear that the investment into a pair of ‘Birks’ is one you certainly wont regret. What we’re loving this season is the modernisation of the Arizona, but this time with one strap, realised as the Kyoto one-strap suede sandals. A minimalists dream!

If you’re someone who prefers performance over perfect when it comes to your footwear, Japanese brand SUICOKE are a fantastic mid-range sandal option. With an offering of simple designs that have been created to accompany you to the beach, the bush and beyond, the DEPA-2Cab-ECO sandals will make sure you do all the exploring you seek, in style.

For those seeking a sandal that is both work and event appropriate, we think the Camper Brutus leather sandals are the perfect minimalist slide that exude comfort and cool. A real winner in our eyes!

If you’re not part of the croc-aissance, then where have you been? CROCS, the shoe loved for being undeniably ugly but unbelievably comfy, have been popularised by millennials and gen z’s who have embraced the shoe for being a cultural and practical icon. Chances are if you spend a mere minute in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, you’re going to spot a CROC, its just fact.

Thanks to the embracement of the cool and hip younger generation of fashionistas, CROCS have released a plethora of different styles so that CROC-oisseurs (connoisseurs of the shoe) are able to build on their rubber shoe collection. We are particularly fond of the Taupe Echo Slides, available on SSENSE, due to their Balenciaga-Yeezy-esque shape. These are some cool and affordable sandals!

Akin to that, if you’re into the sculptural shape that can be achieve with such a fun material like the foamy rubber than CROCS use to create their footwear, then the Echo Clogs might also tickle your fancy. These are a big of a harder, meaner and edger shape than the classic clog style, but still feature the back strap for you to be able to put them into 4WD mode whenever the terrain calls for it.
