It’s Time To Welcome Tights Back To Your Winter Wardrobe

Tights, stockings, hosiery - all of the above are back, and here to stay.

Regardless of what you choose to call the sheer nylon garment, there’s no doubt you have a pair or two in your closet. After a short period of hibernation on the trend scene, it’s time to dig into your drawers, and reinvent your winter wardrobe with a killer pair of tights.

LUXE

From the feminine flapper girls of the ‘20s , to the rebellious Courtney Love rockers of the ‘90s, tights have made consistent contributions to fashion over the years. Sensual back seam stockings were a staple for women in the first half of the 20th century, until the punk scene ripped and distressed the threaded hosiery in the 80s. Today, tights are making a comeback, where monogrammed logo styles are rising to peak status.

For our ‘Luxe’ look, we’re channelling the trend of the moment, with these Balenciaga logo tights. While traditionally styled with feminine heels and boots, complementing a pair of tights with white track sneakers is a daring yet stylish way to present a forward thinking fashion look.

Adding a similar toned bag, in this case a trendy white Bottega Veneta variety, effortlessly cements the sneakers into the outfit for a flawless finish. To keep the illusion of a seamless sheer look, we’ve added a mesh top under this oversized Prada Blazer dress, mixing preppy and punk looks in androgynous style.

Prada Side-tie Blazer, $3,450, Farfetch

RED Valentino Point d’esprit Mesh Bodysuit, $542, Farfetch
Bottega Veneta White Intrecciato Top Handle Bag, $5,150, SSENSE

LESS

Our Less look is our mid-range style, with a dash of high-fashion, for the working girl with a tendency to splurge. We’re keeping with the monogram trend for this look, in these classic crescent-moon motif Marine Serre stockings.

A slightly more understated choice compared to the cult-classic Gucci logo tights, the stockings are nevertheless the focal point of this winter fit. A simple but structured black dress acts as the perfect sidekick, without distracting the eye from the patterned tights.

Tights and Dr Marten boots have been a staple way to style a winter fit since the ‘90s, so we couldn’t pass up a thick soled pair of Jadon boots. For this look, we think a fluffy Stand Studio Tote and faux leather coat will put a 2021 twist on a millennial classic. And if you don’t have an affinity for Docs, elevate this outfit with a signature pair of pointed stiletto heels,

Finish the look with a soft beret and complementary gold jewellery, and you’ll look like you’ve walked straight out of Paris Fashion Week.

LOW

It wouldn’t be a tights edit without a badass pair of knee high boots now, would it? Although it may be our most economical section, we think this outfit will have you looking and feeling like a million bucks.

While we’ve given you options for on-trend looks using logo printed tights, for our ‘Low’ look we’re using what we already own, with a classic pair of black, 15 denier tights. A staple in just about every underwear drawer, when styled well sheer tights look effortlessly chic.

Choosing a lower numbered denier, or a more ‘sheer’ thread of hosiery, is a great way to ensure your tights seamlessly complement an outfit, without overpowering the look. Add a short black mini skirt, printed top and a buttery leather blazer, and you have a multifaceted outfit with items from your own closet.

This look can easily be transformed from night to day, by switching out the leather blazer with a cozy teddy jacket like this one from Glassons.
