It’s Time to Spring Clean your Make Up Routine

The time has come to spring clean your cosmetic case and bring in products to induce that summer glow.

Spring has well and truly sprung and now is the time to turf what you’re not using, and bring in newness, freshness and glowyness. These are the must-have cosmetic products to up your makeup game this season. Did you know that most cosmetic products only have a shelf-life of 6 months before they spoil? If you haven’t already done a cull of your makeup bag, spring is the push to get rid of anything that’s been in there since the start of autumn. Now you’re back to basics, lets fill that case with glow inducing products to protect and perfect for the warmer months!

Prime Time

With the summer months comes the sweat and the dreaded bead through of our flawless makeup application. Ugh!

In order to properly give your look the best longevity and chance to survive even the craziest heatwave, it’s all about building a strong foundation pre-base application. When it comes to a solid foundation, a primer is a no-brainer.

A primer sits somewhere between skincare and makeup and is typically formulated with skin loving ingredients to support and protect the skin.

Just like all cosmetic products, primers should be selected for the skin it’s supporting as well as the desired finish.

Whether you’re looking to mattify oily skin, hydrate the dry or induce some glassy skin for a flawless finish, a primer is the best way to achieve your desired look.

Of course, because we’ll be spending more time than usual in the sun, a primer with an SPF element is always a great idea.

We love the Hourglass option below for it’s protective quality and formulation that is akin to great quality skincare.

All About That Base

No type of product is more important to turf as soon as it’s a little old than your base products.

When it comes to spring cleaning your foundation and concealers, it is so important to stay on top of how long they’re sitting in your makup bag.

Holding onto something that goes all over your face for longer than you should, can really compromise your skin.

Just like using a dirty foundation brush, spoilt base product can cause breakouts, irritation and not that flawless finish we’re all about.

So, when the heat is turning up and we’re making the switch to a base lighter in coverage and darker in shade, there are a few things to look out for.

SPF coverage is very helpful in a foundation, whilst shouldn’t be relied upon for our whole protection game (sunscreen is a non-negotiable after moisturiser and before primer) but should still be a consideration.

We love opting for a mineral base BB cream with SPF on a light coverage day.

To up the glow-game, foundations featuring hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid like in Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk is a great place to start!

Cream All The Way

While powder blush, bronzers and highlighters may bode well in the cooler months, we here at Monde are very firm believers that cream is the way to go when you’re chasing that summer glow.

When applying anything over this perfect foundation and base we’ve just applied in the steps above, it’s imperative to stick to product with a cream base to ensure the finish is upheld.

If you’re contouring with a powder you’re about to wipe off all the goodness we just did and that’s a big no-no.

For bronzing and contouring, we love creamy products in stick applicators for easy application. Buff away the products with a stippled brush for a seamless blend!

When choosing a cream blush, we’ve actually written a whole article on our favourite ones, get it here.

For application in summertime, we love adding a small amount of blush across the bridge of the nose for sun kissed look without having to expose the skin to sun!

If you’re taking the look from the beach to the bar, adding a touch of cream highlight to the high areas of the face will bring a luminosity screaming summer. M.A.C Cosmetics strobe cream is an all-time favourite!

Beneath The Balm Tree

When it comes to the lips, we’re all about hydration baby!

In summertime we recommend moving away from matte, cakey and drying formulations of lipsticks and products, and instead moving to no fuss balms, glosses and lip oils.

Formulated with hydrating and nourishing ingredients such as oils, hyaluronic acid and shea butter, these buttery good products ensure our lips are supple and the reapplication is absolutely seamless.

Just like everything else we’re popping on our faces in the summer months, anything with an element of sun protection gets a big thumbs up from us.

Due to the delicate nature of the skin of our lips, it’s imperative to not only hydrate this area, but also protect from UVA and UBV rays.

For an extra addition of summery goodness, we love incorporating glittery glimmer in the lips to disco-y our pout.

The Ultra Violette option from The Iconic below is the perfect mix of sun and sensible, and we cannot get enough of it!

Ready Set SPRAY

As a final thought in our impeccable spring/summer makeup look, a setting spray is a must. While these mists secure your look no matter the season, we love opting for a warmer weather specific one during the summer period.

Setting sprays ideal for the warmer weather are typically formulated with hydrating and illuminating ingredients and sometimes even some sun protection!

Some of our favourite setting sprays ideal for the warmer months come from makeup royalty such as Charlotte Tilbury, M.A.C and Miss Anastasia Beverly Hills herself.

These high performance fixing mists will give you a the dewy finish you seek, without letting that makeup budge, even a smidge.

A little tip on a scorcher of a hot day, keep your mist in the fridge and spritz your face with a cool breath of hydration.

This will not only give an instant cool hit but the temperature can also depuff the face. Heaven sent! We cannot recommend this final step enough!
