Fun Makeup Looks to Try in the New Year

Ring in the New Year with some stunning makeup looks.

No other holiday allows you to go all out and experiment like New Year's Eve. So, why not start the year looking fresh and gorgeous with a flawless makeup? Whether you're looking to try a glittery eyeshadow look, bold eyeliner, a dramatic lip or a fun blush, we've rounded up ideas to fit every mood and vibe.

Bold Blush Contour

There’s nothing better than a gorgeous blush look to rock in the New Year, so to get the most gorgeous base, use a contour blush look. Choose a blush that matches your skin tone to achieve this look. If you have fair skin, the colour you should choose is similar to how your skin would naturally blush (spoiler alert: that’s probably baby pink). Consider using the colour of your lips as a reference if you need clarification on your natural blush shade.

Warm red and orange blushes will add a natural flush of colour. For an effortless look, bright berry and mauve shades are a great choice if you have cool undertones.

For olive skin gals, peach and bronze hues will add a natural flush to the complexion.

Be daring with super orange-toned hues if you have medium skin, which shines with peach-pink and apricot tones.

With a Kabuki brush or a beauty blender, apply the blush to your cheeks and temples, where you would generally contour, building up the colour as you go.

To make this an extra glam look, you can pair a sparkly eyeshadow look and a cute red lippie.

We recommend using Nars Blush as a powder product. You can choose from 19 colours that will suit different skin tones. The shimmery finish is natural and buildable, and it blends smoothly.

If you want to achieve a glowing/natural look, try using a cream blush. The Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks is a great way to create a flattering blush. This brush is easy to apply, has excellent coverage, and can also be used on lips!

Celestial Lids

Are you looking for an ethereal, magical look to kick off the new year? Then, holographic lids are a trend you should take notice of. It’s basically all about sparkling eyeshadow, radiant skin, a cute wing, glossy lids and pigments all over the lids.

Suppose you are going to achieve this look. In that case, you need a primer such as Anastasia Beverly Hills eye primer, a shimmery liquid eyeshadow like Stila’s glitter glow or a cute palette like Huda Beauty’s Rose Quartz Palette and Danessa Myricks Beauty Colorfix Glazes 24-hour cream colour gloss.

Start by applying Anastasia Beverly Hills eye primer, followed by a nude shadow base and then a stunning pigmented shadow. Among the best-pigmented shadow palettes to use is the Huda Beauty Rose Quartz palette, which features many wonderful celestial shades from greys and pinks to neutrals.

After that, add a gloss like the Danessa Myricks Beauty Colorfix Glazes 24-hour cream colour gloss to set everything off. With this eye look, you can also wear a pretty clear lip gloss on your lips and a glowing skin base, along with some highlighter in the places that generally catch the sunlight, like the cheekbones, the middle of your forehead, and the tip of your nose.

Voila! You’re now ready to rock!

Bold AF Liner

The New Year is a time to reflect on the year and anticipate what 2023 will bring. It’s time to be fabulous and adventurous with your makeup, adding sparkle and having fun!

There have been many gorgeous graphic eyeliner looks on social media in 2022, and many Euphoria fans are trying many colourful looks out. So why try out the vibrant liner trend yourself?

There are many ways to achieve this look, like a colourful cat wing or a reverse cat eye, so choose according to your preference, but you can’t go wrong with a striking thick cat eye done with a statement eyeliner.

If you want to create this look, consider using a coloured liner like the U.V. Taffies Palette and a brush to apply the liner across the lash line in an upward motion towards the outer corners of your eyelids. Fill in the liner until it’s thick, then finish it with mascara and a pair of pretty lashes.

All Things Glittery

A new year full of sparkles and glitter can be the perfect way to start the year, especially since glitter is a trend that keeps returning year after year. It’s fun to play with and gives any look a pop of colour.

The Glitter Tribe Biodegradable Glitter is one of our top glitter picks. Not only is it available in gorgeous colours, but it’s also extravagant and safe for the environment. It is made from plants (eucalyptus cellulose and wood pulp), it’s not tested on animals, the glitter breaks down in nature naturally, and it’s easy to apply. Simply use aloe vera gel or lash glue, and you’ll look extra in minutes!

For glittery eyes, use loose leaf glitter or a smooth eyeshadow like M.A.C. Cosmetics Dazzleshadow, Nyx glitter primer, lash glue (to attach loose glitter) and coat your lashes in mascara or add some false lashes to finish off your look. A cute way to pair this look would be with gorgeous bronze skin and a cute statement lip.

Crystal Eyeliner

Take a leaf out of Maddy Perez from Euphoria’s beauty book and rock this fantastic look.

We recommend a few things for this look: M.A.C. Cosmetics Pro long wear gel liner, flat back crystals, lash glue, and some killer mascara and false lashes.

Start off by doing a gorgeous black eyeliner wing (you can use other coloured liners too, but we recommend using a gel liner) and then add some stunning gems and flat back crystals along the lash line using strong lash glue.

You should apply these by looking at an angle in a mirror to ensure the best placement. After you apply mascara to your lashes, you can attach false lashes (like the Kiss Falscara lashes, which won’t interfere with the crystals and will still give your lashes volume).

Glowing Bronze Skin

Another beauty look we recommend is glowing bronze skin. Get the sunkissed glow and perfect base to pair with a simple eye look.

You can wear this look all year round with warm shimmery lids, shiny lip gloss, and a gorgeous highlighter.

The best way to get a bronzed look is by starting with a hydrating moisturizer and then applying Napoleon Perdis’ autopilot matte and pore minimizer primer.

Next, use your favourite foundation or tinted moisturizer. Finally, to glow all new years, apply a long-lasting bronzer like M.A.C. Cosmetics bronzing powder, set with a dewy setting spray, and then contour with a cream contour palette (using a stunning makeup kit like the RCMA Foundation/Concealer palette).

We recommend the Estee lauder bronze goddess powder bronzer, giving you a seductive bronzed look with its oil-free and easy-to-blend formula to get your look to the next level.

While the M.A.C. cosmetics bronzing powder can suit all skin tones, it applies smoothly and provides a natural sunkissed finish that works like a gorgeous tint on your skin.

Smokeshow Eyes

There is nothing more iconic than a smokey eye for new year’s eve, a look that has been around for ages.

If you want the perfect jet-black smokey eye, you’ll need black eyeshadow, fabulous mascara, and dramatic false lashes.

To get the sexy smoky eye look you want, start with a long-lasting eye primer, like the Tom Ford Emotionproof eye primer, followed by a black base with M.A.C Longwear paint pot, and apply an eyeshadow stick like Makeup For Ever Aqua Resist Smoky Shadow with your best eyeshadow brush.

Make sure to finish it off with a shimmery black shadow or a matte black shadow, and gently blend everything out with a lighter brown shade (if you’re new to blending, blend from the outer corner inwards and then lift up your brush. Repeat until it looks incredible.).

To complete the look, apply two layers of mascara to your top and bottom lashes, add lash glue and your best set of dramatic lashes, and you’re good to go.
