From Battlefield To Peak Street Style: High to Low Cargos

We transported back to the nineties yet again to steal the ever-so practical cargo pant trend.

There is nothing cooler at the moment than embracing a comeback trend. And when this trend includes numerous pockets and the most practical pair of pants to ever exist, the appeal quickly turns into an obsession. Finding their origins as a military cargo pant, before they became a fly choice in the mid-to-late nineties, the pants have come a long way from their late 1930s to early 1940s use on the battlefield.

Luxe

While cargos are generally seen as a more casual wear item, our Luxe attire is here to prove this look is an exception to the rule.

Taking a leaf out of many high-end designers’ books, who seem to believe a place for the pants on the runway is more than appropriate, we will have you vogue ready in no time.

And hopefully any guilt associated with your nineties to noughties fashion choices will have you realising that you were at the start of your trendsetting peak.

Reimagining the classic utilitarian cargo, the cream Isabel Marant’s Tilsen cotton-canvas cargo trousers have an exposed front zip, elasticised waist, zip cuffs and exaggerated patch pockets.

Sticking to the cream and natural colour shades of the look inspired by the hero product, we have added a pop of olive green to bring the look to life ever-so subtly.

And is there a more perfect product than the CÉLINE messenger bag for this, we think not.

For a look that remains faithful to the beginnings of what a cargo pant is associated with, we have made the camouflage print the centrepiece of this look.

Seen on the likes of many celebrities strutting their style down the street, the latest star to don the camo cargo is that of influential Gen-Z celebrity sensation, Timothée Chamalet.

And we can’t complain because this military-inspired look most definitely has a certain relaxed yet desirable appeal to it.

To elevate the main attraction, pair the cargo pants with some Dr Martens.

The high lace-up boot is an obvious choice when going for a military look, but also seamlessly escapes being cliche.

Combine with a relaxed simple white tee, similar to that of Frame’s deconstructed logo-print shirt, and the Museum of Peace and Quiet green baseball cap.

For an extra laidback touch, the Ray-Ban hexagonal sunglasses with a backwards cap can never disappoint.

We can’t deny we love a comeback trend, but sometimes committing to the trend can be a little hard if you don’t quite know if you can “pull it off”.

While we most certainly believe you can, we have combined our most adventurous look for our less option – just so you can try the trend without breaking the bank.

Inspired by the colour scheme of the season, this look is a burst of sunshine with a heavy reliance on a bold orange.

Because skinny, cuffed cargo pants are really making waves in the fashion world, we found the golden pair in the Topman skinny belted cargo.

To tie in with the colour scheme and the nineties renaissance, and because they are on-point with 2022’s trend, top off the look with a fluffy bucket hat in bold orange.

A daring look from top to bottom, pair with more neutral shades to help settle the look.
