Fashion & Movement: The New Age of Activewear

So you can look good, feel good and know that you’re doing good as well.

Athleisure is the clothing of choice for those with busy, active lifestyles. Women who want to get their job done and be comfortable doing it. Or just for women who can’t bring themselves to put those tight denim jeans back on to venture outside after months of comfort. But, as society becomes increasingly more politically aware, more inclusive and bolder, we expect our fashion choices to reflect that. We’ve chosen three activewear brands that are going above and beyond to reflect some of the values that important in 2020.

Girlfriend Collective

It’s clear we now live in an age where climate change is undeniable, fast fashion is out, and sustainable fabrics are well and truly in. That’s why we love The Girlfriend Collective.

Every single pair of compressive leggings and bras made by The Girlfriend Collective start with recycled post-consumer water bottles, that would otherwise have gone straight to landfill and cause major pollution and threats to wildlife. They also use recycled fishing nets and Cupro, a delicate fiber made waste cotton, which is developed in a zero-waste, zero-emission facility in Japan AND all their packaging is completely recycled and recyclable.

On top of sustainable fabrics, you can rest assured that every garment is made ethically. The Girlfriend Collective’s (woman managed) factory in Vietnam pays above living wage with fair working hours and safe conditions for all employees, including free healthcare.

Good American

Size inclusivity is in Good American’s DNA. The Kardashian run company was created specifically with the mission statement of inclusive fashion that any and every single body type could feel confident in, and the belief that “fashion should be made to fit women, not the other way around”.

With a size range from US 0 to 32 all sizes are catered to, and to make your shopping experience that much easier, Good American allows you to choose which model you want to see showcasing the clothes, from Katie in a size 0 to gorgeous Rachel in a size 16, so you can really see what the clothes look like for every body type, taking the stress out of online shopping.

Not to mention, Good American donates a percentage from every single purchase to Step Up, a charity that propels girl from under-resourced communities to fulfil their full potential, so you know your money is doing some good.

Dharma Bums

Monochrome is for the faint hearted, bold and bright activewear is where it’s at!

Dharma Bums wants you to feel vibrant, motivated and confident, and if fun prints don’t do that, then we certainly don’t know what will!
They’re a brand dedicated to empowerment and invigoration, taking pride in every single print and pattern they create. Dharma Bums’ have a unique, refreshing style that is overwhelmingly Australian. The designs take inspiration from the settings and scenery of Sydney’s beautiful beaches, where the company was founded and the garments are made 100% ethically from Australian and international facilities. Even better, just like The Girlfriend Collective, Dharma Bums recycles post-consumer water bottles to make some of their items.

These bold and fun designs are exactly what you need if you struggle to get excited about your workouts or if you need to add a little bit of fun and excitement to a day you’ve been dreading.
