Spanish Brand, Balenciaga is Making a Comeback

Everything you need to know about Balenciaga and their rebooted popularity within the fashion industry post their Paris 2022 Couture Runway.


The luxury fashion house, Balenciaga, was first established in 1919 by Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga in San Sebastian, Spain. Known for their odd but modern silhouettes and cuts. Their unique designs include a variety of ready-to-wear, footwear, handbags, and accessories; all of which have become a trademark within the brands house. In recent years, the brand has edged its way back into the mainstream with an increase in people’s love for products like their famous ‘City Bag’ and oversized, ‘Triple S’ sneakers.

Looking at the Paris 2022 fashion week, Balenciaga has made its couture comeback. Their debut was a first of its kind in nearly 53 years, featuring couture-calibre T-shirts and jeans, made of hand-loomed Japanese denim held together with sterling silver rivets, to fully embroidered ballgowns from Gvasalia. The runway was set amidst the historic grandeur of Balenciaga salons. The show saw A-lister celebs like Kim Kardashian and Dua Lipa make a runway appearance, among supermodel legends like Bella Hadid and Naomi Campbell. Staying true to their roots, Balenciaga presented a show with elements of effortless modernity, reminiscent of traditional house codes presented under Cristóbal Balenciaga’s direction in the early 1900s.

Balenciaga became the most popular fashion brand in the first quarter of 2022, taking the top ranking for the most searched and bought brand. Its popular demand amongst consumers has seen Balenciaga see a 108% increase in revenue over the last 6 months. This has come as no surprise, considering the brand appointed Kim Kardashian as it’s face in February this year. The fashion mogul herself is seen frequently in full Balenciaga looks (and often accessories like sunglasses) and has propelled the brand into a global phenomenon that has far exceeded the reach of pre-Kim days.

Balenciaga continues to be a brand that we all must keep an eager eye on. Consistently being ahead of the game, the brand is expected to reshape its successful brand model into more creative and elusive designs in the future. Watch this space.
