Is The Future Of Fashion Free Of Gender?

Moving forward fashion design is set to break free of gender stereotypes. Taking the binary out of dressing can mean a multitude of things, it’s not as simple as men wearing dresses and women wearing pants.

To degender fashion isn’t as simple as designing unisex pieces.

It’s about removing the gendered social structures around clothing – both from a production and styling point of view.

Essentially, it’s the ability to wear any piece of clothing and feel free of social judgment and persecution.

A social fashion movement lead by the non-binary and trans communities, degendering clothing has less to do with the actual clothing and more to do with public perceptions.

To totally degender fashion, we’ll have to work from the ground up by encouraging everyone to wear what they want, when they want.

This could look like traditionally masculine men finding comfort in flowing dresses, or hyper feminine identifying people not feeling afraid to wear a pair of baggy jeans. Think self-expression above all.

No matter how you identify, we’ve gathered some of our favourite futuristic designed pieces as a way to slowly dip your toe into the world of fashion without the gender binary.

Get acquainted with the idea of degendered dressing through our current favourite gender-free pieces that you can mix into your current rotation with ease.
