How Miley is Responsible for Bringing Back the Chic Hood

If you’re yet to hear, or see, Miley Cyrus’ new single ‘Flowers’ then golly are we surprised. What is being referred to as THE ‘revenge tune’ or ‘break-up track’ of our time, the song has now spent its 6th consecutive week at the top of the charts, and it’s not going anywhere soon.

Made viral by the repetitive easter eggs left hinting at private moments of Cyrus’ ex marriage to Liam Hemsworth within both the song’s lyrics and film clip, there has also been some iconic moments to note when it comes to the fashion featured.

The video clip opens with Cyrus sporting a vintage 1991 Yves Saint Laurent amphorae-shaped hooded cut-out gown, that should be described as nothing short of an ensemble touched by Midas himself. The best part of the entire look? The hood! The way the fabric drapes around the face and neck is nothing short of glamorous, alluring and a whole lot of CHIC! A far cry from the typical association of a hood/hoodie. This YSL renaissance is giving Grace Jones, not gracing the couch post gym on a Sunday.

Thankfully, if you’re keen to jump on the chic hood trend in 2023, you need-not to be invited to raid the ready-to-wear runway looks of the 90’s. Thanks to brands like Maison Alaïa, Tom Ford and Dion Lee, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to hooded goodies, that should be (proudly) worn outside of the house.
