Florals for Spring? The Rosette Trend

One of the biggest trends for the upcoming party season are dresses, outerwear and accessories laden with petals made of gathered fabric. Now, all that’s left to do it determine, will you accept this rosette?

Remember the opening credits of the first Sex and the City movie, where Carrie Bradshaw wears a white and gold asymmetric dress featuring a giant hibiscus flower on it? A New York City native walks past and exclaims “Uhhhh great dress’? Well, let’s just say this 2008 moment seems exceptionally relevant in the world of today.

Popularised by designer MAGDA BURTRYM and now adopted by those with a penchant for the funky and the feminine, we’re utterly obsessed with fashion featuring oversized flowers in 2022, specifically, the rose. Yep, that’s right ladies, the biggest trend for the upcoming party season is rose appliqué, and it is anything but daggy, trust us.

For New Year’s Eve, I 100% plan on wearing something as fun and sexy as MAGDA BURTRYM’s Strapless Gathered Floral Mini Dress from NET-A-PORTER. And if I’m feeling fancy for the beach, might just invest in these obscenely Embellished Bikini Bottoms featuring a similar print.

For designers jumping on the trend a little closer to our home shores of Australia, we’re happy to report that Rachel Gilbert has created many a style that heroes detailing of 3D petals made of fabric. The self-proclaimed queen of embellishment, evening wear and bridal, has packed her latest collection with roses good enough to eat (no kidding, the Freida Mini Dress looks like it’s been sprayed out of a whipped cream can).

In addition, it seems all too fitting that Melbourne socialite Rozalia Russian today comes out with a party collection that is laden with rose appliqué. Coincidence? We think not. If this isn’t a sign to start wearing oversized roses on your clothing, we really don’t know what is.

No matter the designer or your location around the globe, there is one thing for sure when it comes to the 2022 rosette trend and that it’s all about wearing it when you plan to have some fun. Shop the best of separates laden with exaggerated cloth blooms, below.
