Celebrating International Men’s Day in 2022

November 19th marks an important day to focus on men’s health and wellbeing.

We’re sure you’ve heard of, participated in and celebrated International Women’s Day, but much do you know about the male equivalent? Here’s why International Men’s Day needs to be on your radar.

Reading Material

One of the 6 objective pillars of International Men’s Day (according to internationalmensday.com) is ‘To focus on men’s health and wellbeing’.

For me personally, one of the best ways to educate and upskill within the health and wellbeing space, is to learn from others who have already experienced and overcome hardship in their lives before. Best vehicle to consume their knowledge? A non-fiction book, of course!

When speaking to self-help, health and wellbeing, we are phenomenally spoilt when it comes to reading material, ditto when focusing on men’s health specifically. Now, it isn’t explicitly important to choose a book focusing on men’s health to gain insight into self-care, as tools and understandings often surpass gender controls.

To make this point clear, we’ve included a new release in out line up below, from Geelong-native Deni Tedorovic, ‘Love This For You’. This honest and inspirational guide of how to live authentically includes personal experiences of Deni’s journey navigating coming out as non-binary, and the gender barriers they’ve dealt with their entire life.

If you prefer help books that err on the side of hilarious, we cannot recommend ‘Tripping Over Myself’ by Shaun Micallef, enough! The perfect lightheaded, purposeful and discerning read for men seeking some humorous guidance in life.

Wellness

The sanctity of wellness means something completely different to each human. Being able to truly care for both your physical and mental wellbeing, it’s imperative to first figure out what it is exactly that fills your wellness cup. We’ve suggested a few items that have been known to help men achieve a higher/more balanced level of wellbeing below.

Nourishment
It’s beyond important to fuel the body with the appropriate vitamins and minerals to keep your physical being in top-top shape. Whether you’re a fan of supplements, need a reminder to up your daily hydration levels or a little kick-start to your workout routine, we’ve got you sorted!

Rest
One of the most important ways to truly unwind and regenerate, sleep and restful practice is a must for all. If you find it difficult to shut the noise of life off, invite a tool like the Kitsch Satin Pillow Eyemask to create a barrier between you and the world around you.

Pleasure
Intimacy and pleasure is something we all deserve. Whether you practice this alone or with another human, goodies like LBDO’s Essensual Oil via Adore Beauty, will allow you to sink deeper within your experience.

Grooming

For many, there is an intrinsic link between looking good and feeling good. Whether you’re a man who this resonates with or not, you should consider grooming to be part of your holistic self-care routine.

When it comes to the male grooming scene, we are spoilt for choice for lotions, potions, gadgets and gizmos that help men achieve a level of put togetherness that fuels a healthy relationship with his personal expression of style and presentation.

For the male who feels himself with a particular style of stubble, or facial hair, we got you. Tools such as trimmers, shavers, balms and beard oils will allow you to take your self-care grooming routine to a level where it celebrates you and makes the process a dream!

The Burly Essential Beard pack is a great way to dip your toes into the grooming product pool, offering an opportunity to try two products at once.

For the lovers of things that smell delicious, why not celebrate International Men’s Day with a new scent that represents a new stage in your self-care journey? Tom Ford’s Oud Wood EDP is an earthen scent that is both romantic and stoic. We’re big fans!

Joy-Inducing Items

To simply put it, sometimes to celebrate yourself or those who are near and dear to you, the best thing is to buy something that sparks joy. Whether it’s a pair of sneakers you’ve had your eye on for a while, a luxury item that you couldn’t dare justify the price tag, or something silly that pulls on your sentimental heartstrings, there is always a place for a splash.

We all have interests that are so specific and personal to us individually, and to honour that is a celebration of self-care! I’ve curated some items that would certainly spark lots of joy for the men in my life specifically, because to be perfectly honest, they all scream ‘treat-yoself!’.

Sneakers seem to be a common passion for many of the men in my life. Whether it’s a new pair of trainers to reignite or reinforce a love of running, or simply a pair of cool kicks to get around in, sneakers are a great vehicle to ignite joy. I’m a big fan of these New Balance 2002 Trainers for an everyday shoe.

For the man who has a penchant for luxury, an investment into a high-end bag or piece of luggage will make him feel special every time he uses it! This Loewe Puzzle Mini Belt Bag is the perfect mix of fun, colour and cool!
