TOMS Brand

TOMS was founded in 2006 unintentionally.  While traveling in Argentina, Blake Mycoskie witnessed the hardships faced by children growing up without shoes. Not only did it make it difficult for them to get an education, but it also exposed them to a wide range of diseases.

His solution was to create a for-profit business that was sustainable without donations. For every pair of shoes he sold, he gave a pair of new shoes to a child in need. He called this ‘One for One’. Although Blake had no connections or experience in the shoe industry, the idea was a global success.

The brand expanded to not only sell canvas shoes, but other products such as eyewear and canvas bags which also employed the one for one system. In return TOMS shoes have provided over 60 million pairs of shoes, restored sight to over 400,000 and supported safe birth services for over 25,000 mothers.
