ESPRIT Brand

Esprit was founded back in 1979 by Susie and Doug Tompkins – previously of The North Face – who sold their fashion designs from the back of their VW bus and San Francisco apartment. In 1971 Esprit De Corp was established to incorporate seven product lines and in 1979 the iconic Esprit stencil logo was developed by John Casado. Community engagement was evident early on in the brand story with the introduction of "real People Campaign" in the early 1990s the “What would you do to change the world?” campaign became a worldwide phenomenon and mirror on what the brand is all about. By the mid-90s Esprit had expanded into eyewear, timewear, bath & bed, socks and tights and Esprit was represented in 44 countries worldwide, and ranked 28th out of the 100 most recognised brands in the United States.
