Paco Rabanne: Looking Back on His Legacy of Glamour

Remembering the king of extravagance, and celebrating is sparkle. Last week, we tragically lost a fashion legend and pioneer, the man behind his eponymous label, Paco Rabanne. These are just some of the pieces that will forever live in our hearts (and hopefully our wardrobes) in memoriam of his work in fashion. This is Paco Rabanne.

Née Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo, the Spanish-French designer, most commonly referred to as pseudonym Paco Rabanne, began his rise in fashion in the 1960’s. Thanks to his signature (and uncommon of that time) infatuation with using materials such as metal and plastic, Rabanne started gaining notoriety in the global fashion space for his unconventional approaches, and fast.

Since his early days, throughout his time designing iconic costumes for films like ‘Barbarella’ and up until the end, one thing is clear, Rabanne has always been a master at toying with the line of convention and telling it to get lost.

It was the year 1966 that Rabanne created something that was not only vastly different from anything else, but a design that would link (pun intended) him to something so identifiable, for the rest of his life. Yes this was the year that Paco Rabanne invented chain-mail clothing. Inspired by armour of the medieval times, these pieces of clothing and accessories were constructed with nothing other than pieces of steel and metal link work. Having been synonymous with the Rabanne brand for quite some time, you can still shop a plethora of chain-mail styles like the Moon 1969 Shoulder Bag, or the Sequin Chain-Disc Mini Dress. Our personal favourite is the Sparkle Metal Hood, which is giving big 2023 Miley Cyrus energy.

Aside from his futuristic clothing, iconic chain-mail accessories and chunky pieces of jewellery, Paco Rabanne was a maestro at creating indulgent and timeless fragrances. During his tenure as a perfumer, Rabanne successfully created cult icons ‘Million’ and ‘Lady Million’ Scents. You can shop, enjoy and adore them today, thanks to retailers like Myer.
