Miu Miu Turned 20 this Year, & We’re All Invited to Celebrate

Prada's little sister is quickly becoming queen of the family and what do we have to thank for it? The return of the Y2K zeitgeist of course!

If you weren’t already aware, Miu Miu is the sister label to Prada (baby sister if you will), founded by Miuccia Prada, the name a derivative from the Italian families nickname. Born after Prada to help bridge the gap between hyper luxury and the more affordable. Celebrating 20 years of cute, embellished and playful attire, accessories and fragrance, Miu Miu have certainly been climbing the family favourite ranks over the last decade.

These days, whether due to inflation, the state of our economies, a surge in the brand’s desirability or a melange of all 3, Miu Miu no longer fits into the ‘affordable’ category, at all. The amount of sparkle has also grown with the price tag.

In 2022 Miu Miu is catering to one of the strongest emerging markets in the world, Gen Z and Millennials. Thanks to the hyper virality of social platforms such as TikTok catapulting the somewhat ironic but very iconic early naughties fashion back into our lives, pieces like the Ballet Flat and micro mini skirts have brought the brand into the lust lists of youngsters worldwide. If the popularity of social platforms bringing the brand to the top of our feeds wasn’t enough, Hollywood’s elite such as Nicole Kidman, Bella Hadid and Sydney Sweeney have leant their name and status to the promotion of the brand. Swoon!

Since 2006, the brand moved its RTW fashion show from its home of Milan to Paris, this once again proved its desire to establish it’s younger roots, with distance from Prada.

Another key difference from its chic, simple and edgy older sister, Miu Miu instead likes to tug on our nostalgic heartstrings with items of clothing that remind us of our childhood and adolescence.

One of the consistent styles offered by the brand has been their iconic ballet slippers. Feminine, satin and superbly beautiful, the ballet flat is back in a big way this season and the iteration from Miu Miu is absolutely one that is most sought after.

The iconic 2000s flat footed gem is back, and goes brilliantly with the rest of the current Miu Miu offering. Immerse yourself in the whimsical world of Prada’s little sister below.
