adidas Teams with Gucci for the Collaboration of the Season

After much hype, iconic logo houses adidas and Gucci have released their collaborative collection and it’s the perfect fusion of throwback and fun.

If streetwear and retro sportswear had a baby, it grew up in Rome in the 1970’s and happened to time travel to the year 2022, THIS is what it would be wearing. The Gucci x adidas collection of sportswear, accessories and outerwear has finally landed and is absolutely an homage to the rich history of both European empires.

Designed by Gucci’s creative director and genius in jest, Alessandro Michele brings his sartorial spin to the sportswear dynamo that is adidas and adds that alluring Italian luxury we can’t help but be besotted by.

Retro is a term that can be used to describe the overall aesthetic of the collaboration, but one we prefer and have coined especially is ‘euro trash does sports’, in the best way possible. Separates with an intention of sport performance are present, but are way too nice to actually wear to the gym. They’re giving ‘serving looks at the country club’ rather than serving balls on the tennis court.

The clothes themselves are beyond exciting. A performance of two planets colliding in a clash of colour, print and nostalgia that has us questioning why the meeting of these two worlds didn’t come sooner.

Driven by nostalgia, both labels have cleverly harnessed each other’s branding codes and played to their strengths. The logo itself is a mis-matched amalgamation of adidas’ iconic Trefoil emblem featuring the 3 stripes, plus the Gucci symbol below in a new and modern curvature to brilliantly fuse them into one.

To know adidas Originals is to recognise the iconic stripes not only throughout the branding but on the sleeves and outer seams of the garments. Let it be known that no 3 striped stone was left unturned within this collaboration. Alessandro absolutely harnessed every single brand code in both labels’ living history and incorporated it somehow into a piece of clothing or accessory.

Chatting to the accessories that are high on our lust-lists here at Monde, this capsule of hats, bags and shoes is the crescendo to this highly impressive collection. At the end of the day, we are dealing with the folks at Gucci here so would we expect anything less? Exactly. The waxy recycled nylon bucket hats and caps are about to become a streetwear phenomenon and we can’t help but listen intently to the bubble-gum pink and green Gazelle tennis shoes that we would literally do anything for. Anything.
