Brand Spotlight: GANNI’s Resort 20/21 Collection Could Be Their Best Yet

Presenting the ‘Kitchen’ collection, designed by the creatives behind the label GANNI during COVID lockdown.

A collection conceptualised and brought to life around the kitchen table of wife and husband, GANNI’s Creative Director and CEO, the Reffstrups.

Now that we’ve been deeply entrenched in COVID for quite some time, we’re starting to wear, read and watch content that was actually created during the time the pandemic hit.

With quarantines, lockdowns and time spent away with our loved ones the new norm, a common thread throughout works produced in 2020 is the beauty of simplicity, what really matters and honouring that.

Humility, practicality and authenticity are three values that we will be wearing for the foreseeable future, in our hearts and on our backs.

One of our favourite labels of the last few years is GANNI. We spoke about the Danish fit a little in a previous edit, but today are coveting their latest collection Resort Collection, titled ‘Kitchen’.

A collection conceptualised in the collective home of creative director and CEO, this curation of goods was crafted amongst a lockdown, juggling home-schooling kids and running an international label from the kitchen table.

Headed up by a husband and wife duo, GANNI’s Ditte and Nicolaj Reffstrup were forced to adjust to the new creative norms that come with working from home. Challenged by a nationwide lockdown, the pair successfully emerged from COVID isolation with a collection that reigns even truer to the brand’s DNA of honesty, integrity and responsibility.

Paring the process back to the essential shapes the brand has long been known for, Ditte channelled all focus onto her “darlings”.
The capsule is presented as a series of foundation products that are quintessentially GANNI. Colourful knitwear, oversized tailoring, whimsical fabrics and chunky boots are all back on the scene, and quite frankly, here to stay.

Not forgetting to pay homage to a twirl-inducing party dress, Ditte designed those featured whilst yearning for the next moment of dancing in a crowded room. “I was longing for that feeling of being on the dancefloor”, she mentioned to VOGUE.

GANNI is so much about the details as it is the shapes, and ‘Kitchen’ has brought with it oversized pilgrim collars, bubble sleeves, playful prints and black leather. Whilst the colour palette is a little more subdued than a spring or summer collection, electric joy can certainly still be found in whispers of metallics and other accents.

Shot in the kitchen, the subsequent imagery is honest, refined and perfectly represents the clothing in the way it was intended it be worn. Nothing short of what we would expect from the Reffstrup’s.

Since creating ‘Kitchen’, Copenhagen has emerged from lockdown and GANNI have reopened their offices as well as their retail spaces. The world is waiting for what they bring us next.

If you’re looking to explore a collection that is more GANNI than any GANNI collection before, we implore you to check ‘Kitchen’ out.
