Anything But Boring Monochromatic Looks For Spring

How to wear this season’s most popular hues.

When it comes to spring dressing, the general rule is to add colour. As we emerge from the depths of winter, we’re moving away from our old trusty Melbourne uniform of everything black and toward more colourful hues to boost our mood and welcome the warmer weather and new life of this blooming season. While monochromatic dressing can be somewhat intimidating, the concept can simplify getting dressed in the morning and is as easy as choosing a colour and going for it!

Words By Eliza Sears

Marigold Yellow

A yellow-orange shade radiates warmth and sunshine, two things we are in desperate need of as we escape the brutal cold of winter. Summon the sun with this marigold moment.

Paul Smith’s yellow Hawaiian inspired shirt is the perfect start to any good spring outfit. Made in Italy, this bowler shirt is guaranteed to be the softest shirt in your wardrobe and will have you wearing it over and over again. For now, the Patagonia organic cotton cord shorts have you covered. The non-stretch fabric will keep its shape, ensuring you look smart.

Accessories must match the activity, and the number one activity this spring is a picnic in the park. CUTLER AND GROSS’ 1833 round-frame sunglasses will shield you from the harsh midday rays. The green lenses are treated to repel water, so an afternoon shower or, if we’re honest, a torrential storm will be no drama. Keep your cards tucked away in Acne Studios‘ colour bloc cardholder, chuck on a classic pair of style 73 DX Anaheim factory Vans, and a Rag & Bone woollen beanie and you’ll be prepared for anything.

Oatmeal

Dressing in neutral creams and buttery tones feels ethereal. Like wearing all black, the act of dressing solely in oatmeal hues is pretty damn chic. And while we likely have a wardrobe full of creamy pieces, we rarely wear them all together. Although wearing all cream is risky business if you tend to be on the clumsier side, this spring, we’re dressing without fear.

Let’s get to it. Mr Simple‘s lightweight linen is perfect for breezy days, designed to let air flow through so you can keep cool. Next, we’re adding Balenciaga‘s loose fit pants paired perfectly with the Golden Goose Ballstar sneakers, featuring Golden Goose’s signature worn effect, making the whole outfit look well-loved from the first wear.

Add a twill classic baseball cap on top; an Acne Studios padded hooded jacket for when the sun sets but you’re not ready to go home. And for all of your extra bits and bobs, Outdoor Voices signature tote bag offers the perfect home for when you’re on the go.

Scarlett Red

The ultimate statement look, red, is as bold as it gets. The AMBUSH red-tinted cat-eye shades are absolutely iconic. The more you lean in with a colour like red, the better the outcome.

The Jacquemus midweight poplin shirt featuring pixellated sewn in a puppy is oversized and tailored, making it the ideal shirt. The Gucci tapered pleated cotton-twill pants are an upscale version of your favourite tracksuit for a more casual look on the bottom. And who doesn’t love custom Air Force 1s to top off a casual look.

When it comes to acccesorising, it’s the little pieces we wear day to day that become a signature part of our style. Luis Morais‘ gold and enamel bracelet featuring a very optimistic ‘good luck’ is just the kind of vibes we want to attract and will undoubtedly become a staple piece for years to come.

Sky Blue

As the sky turns from grey to light blue with the occasional fluffy white cloud, it’s our sign to break out the baby blue.

A.P.C.‘s Martin light-wash blue jeans are the wide leg, ankle-biters of our dreams. These jeans leave just enough space for you to intentionally show off your Kule stripe rugby socks without looking like you accidentally dried them in the machine.

As all things dad style remains crucial to cool these days, New Balance sneakers must make an appearance, and we’ve got just the pair. The 574 Denim in Uv Glo with faded workwear gives dad vibes down to the touch construction brown with a nod to marigold yellow.

We’re keeping it basic up top with a Balmain short-sleeve crew neck and a Marané chambray overshirt with dropped shoulders for a softened, relaxed profile. Throw on the Paul Smith messenger and you’ll look and feel effortlessly cool.

Mint Green

We’ll admit to having fallen in love with the art of comfort dressing without looking like you just woke up and are wearing three a day old tracksuits. As it’s more elegantly known, Loungewear has become a staple in many a wardrobe since the rise of working from home and, in turn, our increased time spent within our own four walls. As we step out this spring, comfort remains crucial to any outfit.

Gap is known for their classics, and we love their tack on the jersey shorts. A more tailored look than we’re used to, these shorts make comfort look damn good. For a more sleek look up top, we’re opting for a slub tee from the home of heritage Aussie style, Country Road and a bowler shirt from Arvust, best worn open.

The positively conscious label, Veja, does everyday white sneakers like no one else. Their low top sneakers with a mint feature are our pick. Pair with Cotton On‘s essential active socks, and you’ve got yourself a ‘fit.
