Ceramic Vases

Ceramic vases are not only traditional but a true staple within any household.

Passed down from generation to generation, these clay-based vessels have always had a special place in our homes and our hearts.

If grandma’s antique collection doesn’t align with your modern aesthetic, we believe you will find solace in the new age of ceramic vases. It is clear we are now living in the age of the artisanal ceramicist.

Creating one-of-a-kind pieces around the world and making them available on marketplaces like Etsy, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to totally creative clay-based forms. Mini sculptures that are interesting, beautiful and certainly not just a vase.

When looking at modern ceramic vases, it’s clear a move into organic shapes has gained popularity. Ununiform, unsymmetrical objects create a real sense of artistic fun within any space.

We are especially enamoured by the works of Ekaterina Bazhenova Yamasaki, who takes an unconventional approach to sculpting. Her capsule of fold-like ceramic vases are available on Neta-A-Porter and make an exceptionally beautiful addition to any home sanctuary.

Textured, glazed, painted or not, these ceramic options are sure to become a piece that you’ll hold onto forever.

Glass Vases

Traditional, simple and elegant.

The glass vase was probably one of the first ones you got gifted and it’s still going strong.

An heirloom in the making, these glass vessels are perfect to completely honour whatever it is you’ve decided to display within them. Showing off a tulip’s long green stem, the drink you’ve created to serve or simply the knick-knacks you’ve placed within, a glass vase is probably the most versatile within the vase extended family.

Impressively crafted and often times hand-blown, vessels created from glass are so beautiful due to their absolute fragility.

One of our all-time go-to labels for glass vases is IITTALA. Discovered at Myer and with an impressive collection to boot, the squiggly shapes and fun smoked colours are components we can’t help but fall in love with. Inherently fun, we also can’t help but be overjoyed by their other designs, like the Kastehelmi Vase featuring little glass bumps all over. Resembling little drops of water or condensation, the addition of texture adds quirk and we can’t get enough of it. A perfect considered piece to live on a tabletop.

Everything Else

If you’ve already got enough glass and ceramic options, we’re pleading you to explore the funkiness that comes along with vases created with Perspex, plastic, resin and everything in between.

The contemporary vase offering is certainly an inspiring place. Shapes, textures, colours and motifs are all presented to those willing to take a little creative risk in their home. We’ve found some amazing pieces crafted from plastics to emulate everyday items, marbled stone for those with a love of luxury and even a vase made of paper. Innovation at it’s best.

One of our favourite contemporary materials for a vase of late is resin.

Pioneering the way in homewares crafted from resin, Dinosaur Designs provides a super inspirational space where we want one of everything. Recently gaining renewed popularity for their horn-like texturing and eclectic shapes, the Australian brand is totally reshaping the local homewares game and frankly, we’re here for it.

Whatever material you opt for, remember to never keep a beautiful vase stuck in a dark cupboard where it can’t be celebrated. Each vase featured here are works of art within their own right, a bunch of flowers or not. Have fun decorating and move them from surface to surfacer as your mood changes!
